The wastage of food is very serious matter for all human living whole over the world. As per survey globally, we waste out approximately about more than one billion tons of food in every year,  which may be the one third of all the food production of  each year. According to food sustainability index in 2017.

Lot of countries with Waste food generation individually peron include India and China approximate waste food  40 Kg per year. The rich countries like U.S and Australia with more waste food individually person more than 100 kg per year. By throwing the waste food on earth which becomes rot and degrades can produces a large amount of methane gases which are  20 times harmful than carbon dioxide and pollute our atmosphere. As per survey the volume of water used in aggriculture food production is immense. If 30 percent of all the food produced goes to  waste then mean 30 percent of fresh water use for production food also goes to waste. Hence there is big lose in every where like productivity, resources and financially etc.

It's also observe that the generation of people have bad habits and set their minds to think and show their higher attitude, status symbol waste food in home, restaurants, marriages, parties and any where. These type of people may be  rich, middle or with poverty class. While eating they usually take much food from their eating capacities and through food in anywhere on the earth. Due to food waste, the average loss of Rs 1 lakh to 1.5 lakh takes place per wedding. It implies that 300 to 400 people can be fed good food, if we can stop this wastage. Lastly the animals and poor people can be seen together to eat that waste food in open areas. Really such situations can't be seen.

Main Cause Of wastage:


  • The store keeper have not proper space to store the harvest crops in farmer's market
  • The non availability of resources and equipments to preserve the harvest crops for long time.
  • Wastage of crops due to foul  weather occurance.
  • Mismanagment in resuturants, marriages, parties and functions are the main cause  wastage of food.
  • Lack of proper transportation fresh produce, meat and fish spoil in uncertain climates. 
  • The wastage of food is lack of appropriate planning on consumer part to buy lot of food. 
  • The wastage of food due to overcooking, packing defects and production trails etc.

How can stop wastage:


  • Everyone must plan while shopping to purchase eatable things.
  • Avoid overcooking and over-serve food in homes, wedding, restaurants, parties etc. 
  • Store food in right place where we could preserve food for long time.
  • Keep your fridge clutter-free, an overly filled fridge can be bad when it comes to food waste.
  • Donate your food in food bank, and charities to needy  and poor people.
  • Make a list of things while shopping. Don't buy the things which you have already in your fridge and pantry.
  • Pickle is best process to avoid wastage. Both fruits and vegetables can be preserved by pickling process.
